Self-assessment

So, we have been working on this blog for a bit over a month now. I think it would be a good idea to stop and reflect on our work so far.

Some students brought up the fact that they had trouble getting used to working in this way. Let's see if we can share some strategies:

1) How often have you been visiting the blog?
2) Do you always access the blog on the same day/time, or do you do it whenever you have free time?
3) Do you regard this as a real part of the subject, or just as something 'extra' that you have to do?
4) How long does it take you to complete the activities each week?
5) Which activities are easy for you to do, and which do you find difficult?
6) Do you work individually or with your classmates?
7) Do you get enough feedback, or would you like me to provide more detailed corrections?
8) Have you found the activities and topics appealing/interesting so far?
9) Suggest topics or activities you'd like us to work with.
10) Is there anything that you'd like to change about the way in which we've been working?
Please write your answers in a comment below.

I've also updated your grades. Make sure you look at them and let me know if you have any questions.

18 comments:

  1. 1) I used to visit the blog all days practically, looking for your answers.

    2) I access the blog when I have free time, usually ar night.

    3) I think this is just something "extra" I have to do

4)May be an hour, I used to do one activity one day and then the others.

    5) Activities with videos are easy and interesting, listening borings but easy. I hate to write a lot, I don't know if it's diffciult but I hate to have to do writings or to write a lot or also, to read a lot.

    6) I work individually.

7)I think that the feedback is all right, you don't have to change that part.

    8)Activities with ideos are interesting.

9)May be some games or activities with pictures. To work with the same things we study in class is boring for me.

10)Not to read a lot it would be great, we read a lot in class with andrea and to have to read also in the blog is frustrating. To open the blog and to have three things to do is quite frustrating to, maybe it's enough with two (one to send an e-mail and other to comment)

Let me know if you understand my point, i've tried to explained it the best i could.

  2. 1) I've been visiting the blog at least 3 days during the week.

    2) I usually check the blog on Wednesdays to see if you had uploaded any new homework. Whenever I have some free time I check out if you had answered some of my comments.

    3) I felt that this is something 'extra' I have to do, but it's a real subject after all.

    4) The activities that have different videos usually take me 20 minutes. But the listening ones take me a bit longer, 30-40 minutes (because I have to listen and write down things and maybe listening again if I've missed something). The readings take me no more than 30 minutes.

    5) I think that working with videos is interesting and it's not difficult for me. I don't have much problems with the listenings either. The exercise about filling in the gaps with the correct tense is the most difficult for me. I definitely have to work on it!

    6) I work individually.

    7) The feedback is ok. If we want any more detailed feedback I think we will probably ask you for it via email.
    8) I really love literature, so the topics we've seen seem pretty interesting to me.

    9) Maybe we can work on some other superstitions or mythological stuff. For example, vampires, werewolves, Greek/Roman mythology and so on. Japanese's superstitions have a lot of interesting things too :)

    10) The way we've been working is all right for me. As Malena said, I think that with one exercise to send via email and one exercise to comment on the blog would be much comfortable for us. Maybe too much homework makes it difficult to do it from one week to another.

    Hope my suggestions are helpful!

Always in the same time, when i return to my house.
    3) Do you regard this as a real part of the subject, or just as something 'extra' that you have to do?

    4) How long does it take you to complete the activities each week?
More or less half an hour.
    5) Which activities are easy for you to do, and which do you find difficult?
I think that all the activities are easy, it depends of the attention that we put on this.
    6) Do you work individually or with your classmates?
    Individually
    7) Do you get enough feedback, or would you like me to provide more detailed corrections?
I think that it s ok

  4. 1) I have been visiting the blog twice a week. Mondays or Tuesdays I do the homework.
    2) I access the blog when I have free time.
    3) I think It is an extra work related to what we did in class.
    4) One hour or more.
    5) The activitis for me are the same, it depends on the subject we are developing.
    6) I work individually.
    7) I think that the feedback is good.
    8) I found interesting the listenings.
    9) As Malena said we can work more with pictures or games. We can work on diferents topics like sports, cities, not so much on superstitions.
    10) I think that the content of the blog is good, but acording to Male and Vicky I think that two excercises are enough (one coment and one to send via e-mail).

    1. Thanks Guadalupe! I think we all agree on #10, and it was mmy original intention to have only 2 activities per week, but sometimes I find material that I find interesting and I think it's a pity not to use it. Anyway, I'll be posting only 2 activities from now on :)

    6) I work individualy. I ask someone if I didn't understand something.
    7) I think your feedback it's clear.
    8) I find superstitions interesting.
    9) I think working whit videos it's ok because is something that we don't do in the school, instead working with listenings or writings that we do frecuently.
    10) The content is good, but acording to the girls sometimes the excercises are toolong or too much.

    2) I try to enter the blog when I fund the possibility to do it, I told you my problem a few days later.
    3) I think that it's something "extra" that I have to do.
    4) It depends on the activity.
    5) The activities where we have to watch some entretain video I think are cool, but writtings or use of english are so boring.
    6) I try to work individually buut when i need some help i ask for it.
    7) I think that you write the necessary corrections for us in order to make the exercices in the correct way then.
    8) Some of them, not so many.
    9) I dont know, i think that personal opinion activities are intresting.

    5) I found dificult to listen 20 minutes of listening becouse i get distracted.
    6) I work individually.

    1. About #4, if you want you can do some of the listening, take a break, and then continue. If the listening is too long you can pause it so as not to get distracted.

As for #10, I'm not sure about how to remind you. Why don't you put a reminder on your mobile phone, or a sign in your classroom?

  9. 1) Once or twice a week.

    2) I usually remember to check the block on Mondays or Thursdays..

    3) It feels kind of weird having two teachers for the same subject, however, I still think of the blog as part of it, even though I don’t think it’s a good idea.

    4) I don’t know, one hour, maybe a little more.

    5) I don’t think any of the activities are too difficult, but watching videos or similar things are always tedious for me because it doesn’t allow me to do more than one thing at the time haha. (I have to turn off my music!  )

    6) Individually.

    7) The feedback is okay.

    8) I get tired if we talk about the same thing for three weeks.. But yes, I think the activities have been interesting. However, if we have to check three versions of the same thing it becomes a little tiring.

    9) It’d be great if we do something about music!

    10) I think I’ve answered this question in the other answers above.
