Writing a Short Story

Today we are going to write a short story. First, watch the following video and pay attention to the tips mentioned:



I also suggest that you read these tips on writing a short story.

Remember it's very important to use narrative tenses.

Choose one of the following topics for your short story:
  • an unlucky day
  • a superstitious sportsman
(you can draw inspiration from the videos we watched last week)

I would also like you to include at least five of these words: glance - step  - shriek - slam - shudder - scream - leap - jerk - pound - gasp (remember you looked them up in the dictionary?)

    Hi Mariela! I'm having trouble to write a short story in around 150 words. I've already written one, but it's around 500 words. What should I do? Any tips to be able to write in a shorter way?

    Wow... perhaps you took too long describing setting, characters, background...
    The only way not to go overboard is to plan what you are going to write before you start. For example:

    Paragraph 1: who? when? where? what was happening?
    These four sentences should be a good enough introduction.
    Paragraph 2: what happened? how did the main character(s) feel/ react.
    This should be the conflict.
    Paragraph 3: How was the conflict solved? What happened in the end?
